At Dargdaffin Gundogs we have found the most efficient way to help people train their dogs is through 1-2-1 training

We believe that all dogs are individuals and have their own personality and characters just the same as the handler

It is important to match the dogs training to the handlers character

Sometimes just a small adjustment on behalf of the handler to the attitude of training their dog delivers huge dividends and allows the dog/handler partnership to progress quickly and easily

Books and training DVD's are great to give you the overall picture of what you should be doing but to get to the nitty gritty nothing could be better then to have some individual guidance and a training program tailored to your requirements, hopes and aspirations

Si. Basic Dog training
Sit
Time spent on the basics are never wasted.  Its worthwhile revisiting now and again as your dog gets older

It can also be used to "reset" a situation that is going wrong
The 1-2-1 sessions that I do aim to strip away the jargon and psycho babble that can sometimes be used in dog training

I have a clear set of base rules. The training methods are then modified to suit the handler/dog team, always working within the base rules

The handler quickly learns how to work within the rules and is then able to solve most future problems with just a top up session now and again
Something to consider
It is true that a trainer will have picked up some canine psychology but few will be dog  psychologists  Some physiologists may be good trainers

A trainer trains a dog what to do and then the dog knows what is expected - but when it come to the following examples usually it is a canine physiologist that should be contacted

Hyperactive, jumps on people, disobedient - habitually doesn't come when called, runs away, overly fearful - shies away from people, animals, or objects, obsessive barking, antisocial - "doesn't like" dogs or humans, aggressive or predatory, overly territorial, possessive of toys, food, furniture, shrinks from touch

The canine  psychologist should be able to get to the reasons behind the behavior and suggest to you a course of action.  This may include the service of a trainer after the root causes of the problem have been dealt with.
