The story of "Dargdaffin"
Dargdaffin Gundogs is owned and operated by Father and Son team Bill and Scott Forbes.  The main kennels are looked after by Scott and Bill keeps a smaller kennel nearby that also houses the Hospital wing

Back in early 70's Bill had a yellow Labrador (Bracken) from his friend  which accompanied him on his wild fowling and rough shooting days.

At the 1972 Game fair Bill saw the Queens dog handler, Bill Meldrum competing, and this opened his eyes to what a gundog was capable of.  Bracken was mated to Sandringham Sydney.  Bill joined the local Gundog club and Dargdaffin Gundogs was born

"Darg Daffin" was thought up by Bills wife, Pat. It is from the old Scottish language. “Darg” means a hard days work, “Daffin” means fun and pleasure

For many years Bill was on the trialing circuit and had many success in Open Field Trails and made up one dog, "Dargdaffin Archie"  Bill was also made a Kennel Club Judge and has judged along side many of the well know names in Field Trialing

Although he has retired from competition himself he still helps out local clubs when they need a Judge

Bill is enjoying his retirement, Picking up on local estates, fishing and shooting.  His also enjoys to be the driver when his son is feeding pheasants and is an enthusiastic advisor on training matters
Scott's older childhood was dominated by dogs.  He was roped in to throw dummies, clean kennels, exercise dogs, help out a scurries, feed puppies and even supervise the odd mating which supplied one of the best excuses ever when he was late for school after the lunch time break

Scott won his first novice working test at 14 but despite running in a few field trials over the years, never got bitten by the competition bug

Scott's first job was as a trainee keeper at the Sandringham estate and it was here that Scott realised that a dog had to form a partnership with its handler if they were both to get the best out of each other

After his experience at Sandringhams Scott stayed active in training gundogs both the family's and taking on the odd "problem" case for local people

After a varied a career Scott has now settled down to being a Part time Keeper on the local estate and a full time trainer and breeder and had day to day control over Dargdaffin Gundogs

Scott's philosophy is that there are no short cuts to training and miss out on the building blocks of the basics and eventually it will all fall down, and although there are many training routines that are useful for many dogs there is not a “one size fits all” approach to all training.

Considered to be a “straight talker” when it come to gundogs and handlers, Scott likes to see dogs and handlers enjoying each others company when out shooting, picking up and beating
